Book Report: It Can't Happen Here

Back in 1935, Sinclair Lewis wrote what Wikipedia calls 'a semi-satirical ... political novel' about a dictatorial takeover of America:

I saw this book mentioned over at Ace of Spades HQ, read some of the Internet blurbs about it, and decided to get it from my local library.

What surprised me the most about the book (written 70-odd years ago) is how much the world of Doremus Jessup and Berzelius Windrip mirrors ours, particularly the Presidential hopeful preaching the Hope and Change of guaranteed incomes for everyone, breaking the power of the 'fat-cats', the usurpation of Congressional powers, and the co-opting of the Judiciary, as well as the placement of incompetent people in positions of power.

If you get the opportunity, try picking up a copy of the book.  Amazon's got it in everything but a Kindle version, and your local library may very well have it on the shelves.

Personally, I think it's worth a read.
