Atheist Churches

Billy Hallowell over at the Blaze writes:
The growth of atheist churches continues across the globe. With the London-based Sunday Assembly, a non-theistic congregation, coming to New York City later this month, it’s only one of the non-believing congregations operating — or planning to, anyway — on U.S. soil.
That’s right, atheist churches.

Now, before you dismiss the idea as foolishness, think about this for a moment: these folks gather on Sundays, have hymns, sermons, fellowship – just like a traditional church.  But, according to CNN:
Outsiders could be forgiven for believing this service, with its homilies, its passing of the plate, its uplifting songs, belongs in a church.

If so, it’s a church without one big player: God.
Well, sorry to say, CNN’s got it wrong (which seems to be their forte when it comes to most of their news stories) – there really is a god being worshiped in these assemblies.

It’s the god of self.

And Judeo-Christians know the name of the one to whom worship of self is paramount, don’t we?  After all, it got him thrown out of heaven.

 Yeah...that guy right there.
